Thokai was founded in 1999 as a registered Closed Corporation (cc.) and is headed by Horst Stahn (born 1963). Horst was born and raised in Namibia. His partner Felizitas Peters (born 1962) is German and together with Horst develops new and individual programmes for Thokai. Felizitas is also the person to contact for all enquires.
Horst is a qualified and experienced tourguide and since 1996 has led numerous guided tours and safaris throughout Namibia, travelling extensively in many different regions. All tour guides who work with Thokai are qualified and registered tour guides who, like Horst, are experienced and careful drivers with excellent knowledge of the vehicles they drive. Horst speaks perfect German, English and Afrikaans. His knowledge of the land, its flora, fauna and especially birdlife is extensive and he also has comprehensive training in first-aid.
After working for more than 15 years in public relations and corporate communications, Felizitas has made her love of Africa her job. Together with Horst she has travelled Namibia and developed a series of different offers especially suited to the interests of German and international guests. Her wish is that every guest should fall in love with this wonderful country, and return to discover more again and again.
Trained at the Nambian Academy for Tourism & Hospitality (NATH), Horst is registered with the Namibian Tourism Board (NTB).
Different vehicles are hired for different tours depending upon the circumstances and requirements of the tour. Our partners are competent vehicle rental centres and outfitters, and the vehicles are regularly checked and comprehensively insured. GPS and satellite telephone are standard equipment for tours in remote areas.
We love our land, its unique natural environment, as well as the people and the flora and fauna that live in it. We favour sensitive tourism that allows visitors to visit remote areas without damaging the fragile ecology of the land. We take care to leave the natural environment as we find it — our tracks and footprints are only momentary marks on the surface of the land. Last but not least, Namibia is a developing African nation. Visitors will not only be able to admire its beauty but also learn a little more behind-the-scenes knowledge of Namibia.
